We carry Ultra Sheer stockings, pantyhose, tights, leggings, knee high, thigh highs, hold-ups, stretch sheer, opaque, seamed, contrasting, pointed heel and much, much, more hosiery and accessories.
Hosiery is actually an industry...Hosiery: Is the industry which makes tight-fitting garments worn on the legs and/or feet. This hosiery is made mostly by knitting machines which make the tight fitting material which goes into the development of pantyhose, fishnet stockings, nylons, leggings, tights and stockings all fall under the category of hosiery. Hosiery was used to make women's legs look smooth and shiny, thus making them sexier looking than just bare legs. Since the 1950's and 60's the hosiery business has changed to where many of the styles are meant to be seen and can actually change the looks of the legs such as tights, pantyhose and stockings.
How Sheer is Hosiery...In sheer hosiery (see through), the sheerness of the actual knit or weave has a lot to do with the styles of stockings or pantyhose styles. Denier is the term used in relation to the weight or fineness of the yarn, which in turn relates to the sheerness of the hosiery. The finer the yarn, the lower the denier. 30 denier is considered Opaque, 20 denier is sheer, 15 denier is ultra sheer, and 10 denier or less is the very sheerest. Sheerness varies with Lycra content. Generally the 100% nylon is the sheerest. A 15 denier 100% nylon will be more sheer than a 10 denier stretch stocking containing lycra.
Panty hose:
Pantyhose comes in many different styles. Control top pantyhose which holds like shapewear and helps to hold in your stomach. Sheer to waist pantyhose which is usually the same sheer material in the leg part carried up through to the top of the waist This panty hose hosiery style is perfect for under that short skirt, side slit gowns, bathing suits, and lingerie. Sheer to waist pantyhose is on the fragile side and can run easily. Support pantyhose which is a little stronger fabric of heavier denier and helps support the legs and helps in circulation. Seamed panty hose comes in most of the above, but has back seams running up the back of both legs from the heel to usually, just under the butt cheeks. Footless panty hose, which we usually call leggings, gives you the support and warmth , but with the freedom of wearing whatever you want on your feet, giving you a bare foot look under your shoes. Finally, there is the infamous "Crotchless" pantyhose which either has a medium size hole sewn into the crotch or the complete crotch area is cut out. Either way, it makes pantyhose a little easier to operate in the bathroom and in the boudoir.
Stockings:
Although the popular use of this word has come to be anything worn on the legs (i.e. pantyhose, hold-ups or tights) we will stick with the more traditional definition. Stockings, as referred to on this web site, are the traditional style that are put on individually and attached to a garter at the top for support. These can come in plain top, satin top, or lace top, but should not be confused with hold-ups, which stay up by themselves. Stockings were originally made of silk back in the 16th century. Then, in the 1920's they really gained popularity considered to make a women's leg look and feel sexy. Shaping the women's leg and smoothing out any flaws in the skin. In the 1940's nylon stockings, or nylons, as they were called. replaced the silk stockings and promoted easier manufacturing and a lesser price.
Thigh Highs: Thigh highs are stockings that can sometimes stay up on their own without the use of garters. Some have top welts of beautiful lace and some have elastic welts at the top to hold them up. StockingStore considers any stocking with a silicone coating on the inside of the upper welt as a Hold-Up stocking and the others with just elastic to hold them as Thigh Highs.Basically you can have a stocking appearance without using a garter belt or any other means of holding up the stocking. This gives a very sexy look.
Tights: Tights are a little heavier denier pantyhose usually with a design or solid color dramatically altering how women's legs (or men's for that matter) look. They can give you a different look depending on the outfit you are wearing them with.
Garter Belts...or garterbelts are sometimes called suspender belts in Europe. Correct spelling is garter belt with the space between the garter and the belt. They are garments made for the express purpose of holding up stockings. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with four to twelve adjustable straps to hold up the stockings. We have garter skirts, garter panties, garter g-strings, and a complete assortment of garter straps which can be hooked or sewn to any type of garment to hold up stockings. The garter belt and the stockings should be considered a team. Stretch stockings usually require only a four-strap garter belt to keep it in place. Non-stretch 100% nylons on the other hand require at least six straps to keep them from sagging. The height of the wearer is also an issue. StockingStore believes that a good garter belt needs at least 6 garter straps to properly hold up the average pair of stockings properly. Waist size is important so that you are wearing the proper sized garterbelt to support the stockings high enough without them bagging or wrinkling.
Garters: The clips that attach to the top welt of the stockings are called garters. Generally they are attached to an adjustable elastic strap, which is in turn attached to the garment worn on the waist or body, these are called garter straps. Sometimes as in the case of girdles and panty girdles the clips are attached directly to the garment without straps, these are garter clips. Garters are commonly referred to as suspenders in England.
